Discounts are getting bigger after it got harder to qualify for the $7,500 tax credit. In order to deal with a slowdown in demand for big, expensive electric cars — and dwindling federal incentives — dealers and manufacturers are pouring on discounts. By the end of last year, electric cars were seeing some of their highest discounts ever, according to Kelley Blue Book. Changes to requirements for a $7,500 electric vehicle tax credit have also put more responsibility on the dealer and the manufacturer to discount prices. We asked Edmunds for a list of the most discounted electric cars in January.

The picture, “Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (30),” is a 2015 work by the Filipino-American artist Paul Pfeiffer. He discovered the original image, a 1967 photograph by famed basketball photographer Walter Iooss Jr., on the NBA’s online archive. In fact, the “Four Horseman of the Apocalypse” series also started out with five other studio-shot portraits of Monroe. “Everything I think about in terms of film celebrities, is even more apt if we think of it in relation to athletes,” said Pfeiffer. AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — The independent commission investigating the deadliest shooting in Maine history was granted subpoena power to compel witnesses to testify or produce documents Tuesday. The commission said it's pleased that the Army will make individuals available to testify, a spokesperson said. Evidence of Card's mental health struggles had surfaced months before the shooting. In May, relatives warned police that Card had grown paranoid, and they expressed concern about his access to guns. Then in September, a fellow reservist warned of a mass shooting.

ESPN Bet is coming to the Big Apple. Wynn Interactive, a subsidiary of Wynn Resorts, was awarded a New York mobile sports betting license in 2021. Penn was not — and it has missed out on the action from the nation's largest sports betting market. But Eilers & Krejcik estimated ESPN Bet came away with 8% market share when it launched in November, good enough to take a third-place position. Now, if New York gaming regulators sign off on the license transfer to Penn, ESPN Bet could provide new and potentially formidable competition in the nation's biggest sports betting market.

Penn Entertainment's ESPN Bet sports betting service could prove to be a winner at the Super Bowl on Sunday — helped by the Taylor Swift effect, according to Bank of America. Morgan Stanley analyst Stephen Grambling calculates Swift could lead to about a 10% rise in viewership. These include proposition, or "prop," bets that aren't tied to the final score, such as "How many times will Taylor Swift be shown on camera during the telecast of the game?" or "Will the MVP mention Taylor Swift in his speech?" ESPN Bet especially could benefit because, compared with other sports betting platforms, it "may have a higher proportion of female bettors," Kelley wrote.

In a memorable montage from the 1999 workplace satire "Office Space," Peter Gibbons, a fed-up office drone, decides to take a stand. For years, the office cubicle was the four-walled avatar of corporate disaffection. Late '90s films like "Office Space," "Fight Club," and "The Matrix" enshrined its detested status. The tech boom arrived, bringing with it open office plans and a Silicon Valley-led gloss of egalitarianism, epitomized by Google's high-profile headquarters redesign in 2005. The top comment on the "Office Space" cubicle clip on YouTube captures the irony of this shift: "I would have killed for a cubicle," the commenter wrote.

While EV sales are continuing to grow, they are doing so at a slower pace, research shows. Elon Musk warned a slowdown in sales growth was coming when Tesla reported earnings on Wednesday. The Warren Buffett-backed EV maker, which sells its vehicles in more than 60 countries and recently overtook Tesla on global EV sales, put an early focus on affordable models such as the $10,000 Seagull. EV sales surged 40% year-on-year in the last three months of 2023 —a "strong result by any measure," as the industry research noted. Aran Waid, senior analyst at Benchmark Mineral Intelligence, said growth in EV sales globally was continuing but that it had "fallen short of automaker expectations."

But EV prices are still about 28% more expensive than average gas-vehicle prices, an analysis by CarGurus found.
